The Challenge

Traditional fermentation monitoring requires manual sampling, which introduces contamination risks and data gaps. The goal was to create a system that could monitor temperature in real-time, accessible from anywhere and in anytime.

The Solution

I engineered a Cloud-Native IIoT Architecture that bridges the physical and digital worlds:

  • Edge Layer: Microcontrollers running MicroPython to read sensors and control valves via relays.
  • Communication: Implemented MQTT (Pub/Sub) over HTTP to reduce bandwidth usage and latency, ensuring real-time responsiveness.
  • Cloud Backend: Developed an asynchronous Node.js server contained in Docker and deployed on AWS, ensuring high availability.
  • Data Storage: Utilized MongoDB Atlas for efficient time-series data storage.
